The Causeway – REPAIR – Temporary Road Closure

Update June 28th 2025:

The works are planned to start on 14 July and are forecast to take 5 weeks to complete. To complete these works quickly and safely, this section of road will be closed to vehicles between the hours of 9:00am and 5:00pm for the duration, including weekends.

The road will re-open outside of these hours with full vehicular access. Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times. Emergency vehicles will be given access during the hours of closure, and bin collections will remain unaffected. Alternative routes are available for private vehicles and deliveries via Pensford Lane.

Whilst works are taking place, some temporary parking restrictions will be put in so we can store machinery and materials.

In advance of these works, the council and its partners will be holding a drop-in session at: Stanton Drew Village Hall

from 4pm until 7pm on Thursday 3 July.

Further information on the works and efforts to minimise disruption will be available at this session.

If anyone has any questions prior to the drop in session ref the causeway or is unable to attend then they can be emailed to The Clerk stantondrewparish@outlook.com and will be passed to BaNES. Or contact Banes directly as below.

Should you have any queries in the meantime, please contact Bath and North East Somerset Council via Email: highways_projects@bathnes.gov.uk

As part of planned highways maintenance works, Bath & North East Somerset Council will shortly be undertaking investigative surveys on Upper Stanton, between Stanton Wick Lane and Pensford Lane.

The surveys will be carried out on Thursday 6th June.

To enable the safe completion of these surveys, this section of road will be closed to vehicles between the hours of 9:00am and 3:00pm.

The road will re-open outside of these hours with full vehicular access.

Pedestrian access along the footway will be maintained at all times.

Emergency vehicle access only will be enabled during the hours of closure.

Whilst survey works are taking place, some temporary parking restrictions will be in place to enable to the storage of machinery and materials.

Alternative routes are available for private vehicles and deliveries via Pensford Lane.

These investigations will inform the design and implementation of a long-term solution to the collapse that has occurred on the street’s northern banking.

The surveys will be carried out by the council’s partner, VolkerLaser, and minimal noise disturbance is expected.
Further closures will likely be required later in the year for detailed investigations and the works themselves – residents will again be contacted with further detail when appropriate.
